Frameless vs Framed
Frameless Cabinet Advantages
Frameless cabinets, also known as European-style cabinets, have several key benefits over traditional framed cabinets. They have a sleek, contemporary appearance due to their smooth, seamless design without a face frame. This makes them popular for modern kitchen designs.
- Frameless cabinets do not have a traditional face frame like American-style cabinets. They have thicker cabinet sides to provide stability.
- Doors attach directly to the cabinet box using special hinges, giving it a sleek look.
- They have a contemporary and streamlined appearance due to the lack of a frame.
- The wider opening allows for easier access and utilization of interior space.
- Frameless cabinets often offer more storage space compared to framed cabinets.
- They can be customized with different finishes, doors, and hardware to suit various designs.
- Installation requires precision due to the lack of a frame to adjust for irregularities.
Framed Cabinet Advantages
Framed cabinets offer options for customization and are a popular choice for homeowners wanting a traditional kitchen look. The visible frame adds to the cabinet's aesthetic.
- The frame provides extra stability and support to the cabinet construction. It is usually about 1-1/2 inches thick and outlines the front of the cabinet box.
- Doors on framed cabinets are attached to the frame itself, rather than the cabinet box using either visible or hidden hinges.
- Framed cabinets offer a traditional look and are common in classic kitchen designs. The visible frame adds to the cabinet's aesthetic.
- The frame allows for more precise alignment of doors and drawers, providing an anchoring surface for hardware.- The frame can slightly reduce the opening size of the cabinet, impacting the ease of accessing items compared to frameless cabinets.
- They often come with customization options for finish, door styles, and hardware, making them a versatile choice.
- Framed cabinets are popular for traditional or transitional kitchen aesthetics.
