Tips for Assembling & Installing RTA Cabinets

Assembling and Installing RTA cabinets is easier than you think! The key? Preparation and organization. Follow this simple step-by-step process to ensure success when assembling and installing RTA cabinets!

Prep Your Work Space

The easiest place to assemble your RTA cabinetry is in the same room it will be installed. Complete demo and remove all debris before the cabinets are delivered so that you have a clean and clutter-free work space. Cover the floor with a soft blanket or drop cloth to protect both the flooring and cabinets from any scratches during assembly.

Get Organized

Once your RTA cabinetry is delivered, open all of the boxes and inspect for damaged parts. Do this right away to avoid missing the time window in which you can file a claim. It’s easiest to assemble similar cabinets together, so sort them into two groups—uppers and lowers. Make sure to read all instructions and watch video tutorials before starting assembly. The easiest way to avoid stress is by prepping well beforehand!

Assembling RTA Cabinets

You’ll need some simple tools to assemble your RTA cabinets—most commonly, a multi-bit screwdriver or hex-key wrench and a rubber mallet. Assemble all of the upper cabinets before moving on to assemble the lower cabinets. Reference the instructions often to make sure you’re assembling the cabinets correctly and take care not to lose any loose screws. Once assembled, write numbers on painters tape to identify where each cabinet will be installed on the floor plan.

Installing RTA Cabinets

Now that your RTA cabinets are assembled, you’re ready to install them. Start with one of the upper end cabinets. First, locate the wall studs with a stud finder or by knocking on the wall (the stud will sound solid as opposed to hollow). Next, pre-drill holes into the stud and corresponding locations in the cabinet. Line the holes up and secure with screws. Use a level to make sure it hangs straight. Repeat the same process for the remaining cabinets, working right down the line.
